Nova Scotians have walked almost two billion steps and we want to celebrate! Heart&Stroke Walkabout™ is supporting thousands of Nova Scotians to discover the joy of walking. All Nova Scotians are invited to walk on Wednesday, May 14th. So grab your friends, your colleagues, your neighbour or your dog and enjoy a walk.
Create your own walk by hosting an event in your area or by simply taking 10 minutes and going for a walk! Register your walk on our NS Walk Day map after May 1st or find one close to you.
Our goal is to help Nova Scotians discover the magic of walking and realize the physical and mental benefits of walking within their communities. It’s about changing the way we think about walking—putting feet back on the streets and walking back in the hearts and minds of Nova Scotians.

Heart&Stroke Walkabout™ celebrated five years of success with walkers all across the province. In total 157 walks were registered on our website including our three Heart and Stroke celebrations in Yarmouth, Halifax and Sydney. In total more than 1750 people committed to pa
rticipating in a walk on walk day through our online tool. We know that number is just a portion of all of the grass-roots walks that took place across the province on May 8th. In addition to community support, we had great pa
rticipation from municipal and provincial government Departments. Elected officials took part in events across the province. At our Halifax event approximately 40% of the legislative assembly participated in our Walk as well as many senior officials from the Department of Health and Wellness and the Deputy Mayor of
HRM. The Honourable Leo Glavine moved to adopt a resolution in Legislature declaring May 8th Nova Scotia Walk Day. Read the resolution.
