Walkabout New York Contest Wraps up, Winner Announced

August 26, 2010 | Halifax, N.S.  – With over 2,700 entries in 44 days producing one lucky winner, the Heart&Stroke Walkabout New York summer contest officially came to a close just before midnight on August 20th, 2010. “It was a huge success,” said Fran Dunn, Physical Activity Coordinator with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. “Our goal was to raise awareness about our signature walking program, Walkabout, and to send one lucky Nova Scotian off to explore New York – on foot. We’re really pleased with the results and are thankful that so many people participated,” she added.

Walkabout Celebrates Forrest Walkabout

On Sunday August 8, after walking 2,995 kilometers through 88 communities and logging 3.4 million steps, Emily Forrest ended her almost three month long adventure in front of a crowd of close to 100 supporters.

Emily began a walking journey around the coastline of Nova Scotia on May 13, 2010. In addition to raising awareness about the Heart&Stroke Walkabout program, her goal has been to inspire Nova Scotians to form walking groups and journey towards better health and well-being.

Walkabout celebrates Emily Forrest’s return

August 4, 2010 – Heart&Stroke Walkabout – a walking program led by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia – is hosting a welcome home for Emily Forrest. Emily, a dedicated walker, is returning to Halifax after completing an amazing 2,995 kilometer walk along Nova Scotia’s coastline.
