Hike Nova Scotia’s third annual Hiking Summit will take place from April 11 to 13 at the Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro. It is a celebration of hiking culture, including best practices, stories and networking opportunities. The agenda is packed with great sessions, Stories from the Trail, hikes and keynote from Jane Murphy with the Trans Canada Trail.

Heart&Stroke Walkabout™ is offering Walkable Communities Grants to help organizations or groups take steps to increase walking participation.
Deadline for submissions is Monday April 21, 2014.

Criteria – Priority will be given to proposals that:
Clearly and effectively link with action of Heart&Stroke Walkabout™ (* See attached fact sheet or visit www.heartandstroke.ns.ca)
Are action and results oriented, with an achievable work plan.
Communicate a clear purpose and activities that are reasonable and can be evaluated for their effectiveness
Build public support and involvement
Engage local or regional leaders and decision makers (e.g. informing municipal counselor of your plans)
Build on existing community support or physical activity strategies (e.g. Municipal Physical Activity Leadership strategies; school or municipal active transportation plans)

Marketing: Heart&Stroke Walkabout™ has transit ads, posters, signage templates, radio ads, wholesale rates on pedometers, and tracking tools. The Walkabout logo is available for appropriate use.

52 Week Challenge! There will be one health related challenge per week for the next 52 weeks.
Here’s how it works:
To view the weekly challenge, like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/walkaboutns or request that you be added to distribution list so that the weekly challenges will be sent to you via e-mail. (once a month)
Each week, complete the weekly challenge and let us know by commenting on our FB page or sending us an e-mail to [email protected] You have until Sunday at midnight to complete the weekly challenge and let us know.
If there are some people in your walking group, or friends and family, who don’t use the internet, but completed the weekly challenge – feel free to submit their name as well.
Complete all four challenges during the month and you will have four entries into the monthly draw. Complete 2 and you will have 2 entries into the prize draw.
At the end of the 52 weeks – there will be a grand prize draw. The more weekly challenges you completed – the more entries into the draw.
Share the weekly challenge with Walkabout groups, co-workers, family and friends. People can start at any time during the year.
