Become a Leader

The Walkabout Community Leader program is intended to support those who wish to lead a walking group in their community. Walkabout leaders can contribute to creating a culture of walking in Nova Scotia in several key ways:

  • Lead a Walkabout group in person or virtually
  • Advocate for more walkable communities

We need your support to help Nova Scotians to rediscover the magic of walking in our beautiful province.  We’ve already trained over 150 leaders in communities around the province to lead a variety of walking groups.

Are you ready to take the next step?

Email us and we’ll forward you the Leader Registration form to complete and return to the Walkabout Team. Once registered, we will send you the link to resources including a leader handbook, participation certificates, poster templates, e-mail templates and more!

I’m interested in starting a group at my workplace.

Let’s get walking!

Why form a walking club in your community?  We know lots of people want to walk more, but many people won’t walk on their own. By having a walking club people can walk as a group. It is fun, social and good for your health!

Heart&Stroke Walkabout™ will be offering several leader orientation sessions.

Date: Oct 27 and Nov 17th
Time: 11:30am to 1pm and again 6pm to 7pm (only need to participate in one session)
Where: the comfort of your home or office
Inspire others to experience the joyful side of walking that comes from being part of a walking group. All you need is a computer with internet access and a phone. There is no charge to participate in this walking leader training. Can’t attend this training? E-mail us your contact information and we will find another time for you.

The goal of the Heart&Stroke Walkabout leader/ambassador orientation is to provide interested individuals with tools and knowledge to start/enhance a walking club in your community, workplace or school . Participants will receive a leader handbook, pedometer, inspiring activities, information on safety and group leadership, and a demonstration of our interactive website.
