HEART&STROKE WALKABOUTTM ELECTION WALKING CHALLENGE

Three weeks. Three candidates. 609 km.

We held a three-week friendly walking challenge among Liberal, NDP and PC candidates to highlight the importance of walking and its presence in our daily lives. The participants were Gerry Walsh, Liberal candidate in Halifax Citadel– Sable Island; Linda Power, NDP candidate in Halifax Clayton Park; and Debbie Hum, PC candidate in Halifax Clayton Park.

The winner of this friendly step counting contest is Debbie Hum with 318,276 steps.

Together, the three candidates logged over 804,060 steps, which converts to 609 km.  The number of steps is enough for a Nova Scotian to walk from Yarmouth in southwestern Nova Scotia to St. Peter’s on Cape Breton Island.

Candidates on the move

Many other candidates took up the challenge in the last week of the campaign, logging their steps on the website to highlight the importance of walking. Read about them below!

In the two challenges combined,  six election candidates logged a combined total of 1047448 steps (804,060 + 243,388), which is more than enough steps for a Nova Scotian to walk from Yarmouth to Sydney.

Thank you to all who participated!
