An initiative of the Planning & Design Centre’s Sustainable Transportation Task Force, Switch:Open StreetSundays is planned to be a weekly event that encourages people to enjoy their city by walking, biking, skating, dancing, and moving around their city safely and comfortably. Switch will offer the opportunity for everyone to get to many destinations on the Halifax peninsula in new and healthy way.
The inaugural event is planned for September 9th, from 9am – 2pm, and will consist of limiting vehicular access along 5km of streets with activity nodes planned at points along the route, includingPoint Pleasant Park,VictoriaPark, and the Hydrostone.
Five activity nodes in total will be situated along the Switch route. These nodes will provide opportunity for a variety of artistic, entertainment, educational, culinary and other endeavors. Dancing, music, yoga, bicycle workshops, and food vendors are just a small sample of what organizers imagine will take place in the designated areas. These activity nodes represent a great opportunity to expose your business or organization to a large and varied amount of people.
An invitation to the inaugural Swtich event may be found here indicating the route and location of the proposed activity nodes. Included in the invitation is a registation form to be submitted by August 17, 2012 should you choose to participate in this event.
