Win a trip to New York City through the Heart&Stroke Walkabout Getaway Contest
July 6, 2010 | Halifax, N.S. – Walking is a great way to see amazing sights, catch up with a friend and explore new places. For the past three years, the provincial walking program, Heart&Stroke Walkabout, has been focused on supporting Nova Scotians to walk more, and, starting July 6th, Heart&Stroke Walkabout is offering Nova Scotians a chance to win a trip to New York City as part of its efforts to encourage and promote walking.
Heart&Stroke Walkabout wants to send one lucky Nova Scotian and a guest on a walking getaway to the “Big Apple.” The winner will receive airfare, accommodations, and spending money to use during his or her three days and two nights in this fantastic destination. The winner and guest will also be treated to a walking tour of some of New York City’s most incredible sights.
“The Walkabout New York Contest is focused on exposing more Nova Scotians to the joy of walking through our Walkabout program,” says Fran Dunn, Physical Activity Coordinator at the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. “We want people to enjoy walking wherever they are and to consider how much better travel can be when you experience the sights and sounds of a new place on foot.”
The contest runs from July 6th to August 20th and entry is easy. By visiting the Heart&Stroke Walkabout website – www.walkaboutns.ca – any Nova Scotian over the age of 18 can fill out the registration form and enter their name to win. “The approximate value of the prize is CAD $2,300.00,” adds Dunn. “This is an opportunity for the winners to have a great time and enjoy a walking getaway.”
Heart&Stroke Walkabout is a comprehensive approach to increasing walking in the province, and is led by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Some of its components include a website to track steps, log routes and walking groups, a pedometer lending program through libraries and C@P sites, and a workplace walking program.
Walkabout is supported by Pfizer, the Presenting Sponsor, Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion and Protection, Pharmasave, Nova Scotia Department of Health, and Great West Life. For more information, visit www.walkaboutns.ca.
