Walkabout Walkability Awards – Nominations Open!

Heart&Stroke Walkabout and the Licensed Professional Planners Association of Nova Scotia are partnering on the Walkabout Walkability Awards to advance our shared belief that walkable environments are important in the lives of Nova Scotians. Together we celebrate people, communities and organizations that are making communities and other environments more walkable in Nova Scotia.

Send us your Walkabout Walkability Awards nomination today!

Nomination Categories

Community Champion

An individual, community group, public organization (e.g. school) or non-profit organization that has contributed to making a neighbourhood, facility, space or geographic community more walkable.


Mi’kmaq First Nation, Town, Village or Municipality

A settlement or administrative division that has contributed to making its jurisdiction more walkable.


Private Sector

A business development association, chamber of commerce, entrepreneur, small business or corporation that has contributed to making a community, workplace, or business site more walkable.



Nominations are accepted until 4:00 pm on November 30, 2016 and can be sent through mail, email or fax. Submit early by October 14, 2016 for your chance to win a $50 gift card.  Award recipients will be announced in early 2017.

2016 Hike NS Fall Guided Hikes & Courses

Hike NS Fall Guided Hike Series 2016

Hike Nova Scotia and 14 host organizations across the province have partnered up to offer the 2016 Fall Guided Hike Series in September, October and November. There are 21 hikes led by local folks and participants qualify to win “trail prizes.” Most hikes are free unless otherwise indicated in the schedule. Hike NS thanks its partners for organizing the hikes on the ground, Goose Lane Editions for its prize donations and the NS Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage for its support.
